Erik has been passionate about gardening since his early years, ignited by a memorable elementary school lab that demonstrated the wonders of pollination. His fascination with plant science deepened over time, especially with the process of photosynthesis, which transforms atmospheric carbon into organic matter. Erik believes that plants hold solutions to many of our world's problems.
At the age of 15, Erik started working on an organic farm in Chelmsford, MA, where he learned about nutrient-dense organic vegetable production and soil management. By 16, he was offering gardening services to his neighbors, building a reputation for his dedication and expertise. He continued to provide exceptional gardening services throughout his college years.
Erik initially pursued a degree in political science at the New School in New York City but transferred to UMass Amherst to be closer to nature. During his time in NYC, he formulated his mission: "to bring people to plants, and plants to people," believing this connection can help heal the world. He received a Bachelors of Science degree in Plant, Soil & Insect Science from UMass Amherst in 2020. After college, Erik worked with Bartlett Tree Experts as an arborist groundsperson and plant health-care technician. He then joined Long Island Natives, where he progressed to the role of IPM (Integrated Pest Management) Manager.
Now residing happily in Northampton, Erik continues to nurture his love for plants and people through his gardening business. In addition to his horticultural pursuits, he works on original music projects and performances. You can find his music on all major platforms by searching for "Erik Vegeto."
